XCEL Chassis is a 14-year old series whose goal is racing that is fast, fun and safe but doesn’t cost a fortune.  Doug Borger said “It like an IROC type series or Legends in a way. It’s a Spec chassis and Everybody has the same car, the same motor program. Basically, I took the money out of the whole thing.  so you're not getting beat by money You're just getting beat by better driver.  Everybody has to buy the car, the motor and the shocks through my company”

The series races regionally with approximately 250 cars nationwide. Borger said “Every year is probably like 15% increase in cars every year, we're definitely growing, that's for sure.”

When asked for the inspiration behind Xcel Chassis Borger said “I used to run sprint cars myself, I ran ARDC midgets, and then I ran sprint cars and to be honest with you, I just couldn't afford it anymore. I said to my dad on the way home from one of the sprint car races one night that I'm going to build my own car, build my own class where it's not about how much money you spend. It's about just the driver.  And this is what I came up with.”

Borger said “A complete turnkey car race ready car is $16,000. Compared to a big full size Modified right now, you're looking at probably $55 to $60,000.  With a 600 Micro sprint, you're looking at about $60,000., so it's an entry level. Its affordable, if this is what you can afford to do. This is what you can afford to do.”  “When people decide to move on and decide to sell out, I'll buy them from them. And then I'll just turn around, refurbish everything and resell them.”

Borger continues “As for as cleanup, you're probably looking at maybe three to four hours a week to maintenance the car. Basically just cleaning it up and going over the nuts and bolt and lubing and such. With the big cars like big sprint cars, big modifieds you're looking at about 30 to 35 hours a week.”
